Q&A for precision metal parts machining

In the mass processing of CNC precision metal parts, due to the high precision of workparts and short delivery time, the efficiency of equipment is the top priority of production. How to solve and prevent the problems in processing is the key to improve efficiency.

Here are some basic problems and possible solutions when CNC precision metal parts processing for your reference:

1.Cutting ribbon twisted and wrapped

When continuous cutting around a tool or work-piece, it is generally caused by groove low feed, low or shallow cutting depth.

Causes:

A. Low feed rate for the selected groove shape.

Solution: Increase machine tool feed rate.

B. The cutting depth of the selected groove is too shallow.

Solution: Select the stronger cutting groove shape to broken chips. Increase the coolant flow rate.

C. Excessive radius of the knife tip.

Solution: Increase cutting depth or pick a stronger cutting groove shape.

D. Inappropriate bias angle.

Solution: Pick a smaller tip radius.

2.Poor surface quality

Hairy hand feeling and appearance.

Causes:

A. The broken parts hits and leaves marks on the processed appearance.

Solution: Select the groove shape to leading the discharge of debris. Change the main bias angle or decrease cutting depth. Select the front corner tool system with the middle edge inclination.

B. The reason for the hairy appearance is that the grooves on the cutting blade are too badly worn.

Solution: Choose blades with better antioxidant wear performance, such as metal ceramic, or reduce cutting speed.

C. Excessive feeding height and small rounded corners of the knife tip will cause a rough surface treatment.

Solution: choose a larger tip radius and lower feeding.

3.Too many burrs

When cutting blade is off the work-piece, a burr occurred at the end of the cutting.

Causes:

A. The cutting blade is not sharp.

Solution: Use a sharp cutting blade, using lower feeding rate blade (<0.1mm/R).

B. Regarding the roundness of the cutting edge, the feed rate is too low.

Solution: Use a knife handle of small main bias angle.

C. Wear or blade collapse when the cutting deep hardware parts by CNC precision processing.

Solution: When cutting blade is off the work-piece, cutting with a chamfer or radius.

4.Vibration and trembling

High radial cutting force. Oscillation or shaking scratches caused by tools or devices. Generally happened in the use of boring rod for inner circle processing.

Causes:

A. Inappropriate bias angle.

Solution: Pick a larger main bias angle (kr = 90 °).

B. Excessive radius of the knife tip.

Solution: Choose a small knife tip radius.

C. Inappropriate cutting blade roundness, or a negative chamfer.

Solution: Choose cutting blade with thin coating, or non-coated one.

D. Oversize wear on rear cutting blade surface.

Solution: Choose more wear-resistant blades or reduce cutting speed.
